Ponds and Lakes- Many ponds are seasonal ( last a couple of months ) . Others last for a hundred years or more. May have a limited amount of species. During the summer, the temperatures can range from 4 degrees Celsius near the bottom of the lake, and 22 degrees Celsius at the top of the lake. During the winter, at the at the bottom its 4 degrees Celsius, then at the top its 0 degrees Celsius. ( ice )
Wetlands- are areas of standing water that support aquatic plants. Marshes, swamps, and bogs are considered as wetlands. Plant species that adapt to the very moist and humid conditions are all called hydrophytes. Wetlands are not considered fresh water ecosystems as there are some such as, salt marshes, that have high salt concentration. ( Theses support different species of animal, such as shrimp, shellfish, and various grasses.)
